December 2009 What the fuck are we doin? Workin hard at perfecting some serious shit. So be patient. 2010 motherfuckers. That's our year for real. - Labyrinth July 2009
June 2009
Dark Matter will be playing a show at The Hunter Bar (50 Hunter St. Sydney) on
Thursday June 25 from 10pm to 2am - $12 on the door.
March 2009 Dark Matter, having recently employed Kranky full-time as a studio DJ to allow Ovahand to focus on emceeing, among other things, has begun work on our first full-length album. Armed now with not only a greater knowledge of sound but also better equipment, DM will make sure this work is perfected like no BMP precursor and we arrogantly anticipate a masterpiece. Our performance at Tycotic's "Conversation Domination" tour went well according to those who attended and I've included the flyer below for the sake of my own nostalgia. Further live shit is sure to come!! Keep an eye on the myspace page if you want more immediate updates regarding that. - Labz
January 2009 Dark Matter MC/DJ Ovahand [Maim] presents the first serve in a series of Magatron Mixtapes. The introductory 8 track EP cuts the bullshit bringing listeners powerful, local home-grown music. Magatron Volume 1 features Sub Conscious & Asylum 57 emcees over jacked beats as well as production from Dseeva & Labyrinth. It is available on CD from Brainmaze Productions/Sub Conscious Records with free download above. - Sceptic September 2008 Before the first cataclysm and the descent of it's second moon, the planet, often overlooked and forgotten, which would eventually come to be called "Earth" by many of it's inhabitants, was a place kept secret by a far more ancient race, and visited occasionally mostly by pilgrims who would meditate there. In time this beautiful world would be overrun by a brutish race of squabbling, power-hungry savages, who would kill each other for thousands of years and desecrate all corners... nevertheless some of it's older inhabitants remained to observe and chronicle it's evolution. And in the ninth month of the year 2008, one of these chroniclers, a lizard-like creature, would release a collection of writings entitled "The Philosopher". This collection would be a critique on the conditions of that place and the idiocy of those who kept it. It would make reference to other dimensions, stranger philosophies, and would show high regard for the unbiased laws of chaos and the tragic nature of infinity. It would be produced in a chamber of inter-dimensional portholes called "The Brainmaze" and distributed with the aid of a council of elders known as "Sub Conscious Records", to be absorbed mostly by humans, many of whom would have no real understanding of it's true nature. Following it's creation the lizard man would of course take care to witness the reverberations of his interference, but he would not wait long; soon he would turn once more to the cosmos. In pursuit of a goal that was surely not even ultimately attainable, he would dream onward, allowing himself to be pulled by something omnipotent; something immortal; something meaningless... This, he would understand, was only the second stage of his journey - for whatever reason, there would still be much to witness. April 2008 "The Philosopher" was supposed to be finished in March but various tedious distractions have been holding it up. Still, it is nearly done; it's getting mastered now and the cover's being developed slowly by my very stoned friend... Hopefully I'll be able to get it out over the next couple of months. I'm fucken sick of it, ay. It's like a shit I've been forced to hold onto for too long. Anyway, while you're waiting to cop it (I'm sure you can think of nothing else), come check us out with assorted other villains at the Urban Warfare gig in St Marys, April 19. There's plenty of time to get drunk between 12:00pm and 3:00am. We'll be performing with DJ Kranky for the first time as well so it should be dope. - Labz
January 2008 The mixtape's finally done! It's called '42.7 Minutes' and it's pretty much what I said it was gonna be in October. You can download the entire thing for free at the top of this web page. As for getting a proper copy... there's almost no difference; we just printed it on a home printer the same as our other releases and the zip file above has the cover in it anyway so if you really give a shit you can print that out and stick it in ya CD or whateva. But if you can't download it 'cause you aint an internet nerd come to one of our gigs and we'll hook you up... It's a fat cover. Our mate Glen did it. You can contact him on glennjiethehunted@hotmail.com. Look out for future releases, we might actually print the next one properly... - Labz October 2007 We've nearly completed our first mixtape for Dark Matter. It runs for a bit over 40 minutes and has a mix of beats from different sources (as you might expect). Some were selected by Ovahand and recorded from vinyl and some I made at various stages but couldn't fit anywhere. One of the beats was produced by 2.L.O.C.O.. The mixtape also features KWITS Crew and Nehi from Boundary Pushers. The plan is to release it through Sub Conscious Records (an independent label that was registered this year by Sceptic and Dseeva from KWITS Crew). Look out for it 'cause it's the best shit we've written. Anyway, I'll make more noise when it's finished. - Labz September 2007 Shrekk from Nurcha Records has generously hooked us up with our first gig on the support list for Clandestien - October 4th at Bar Broadway. Come check it out. We haven't performed before but we still gonna fucken kill it! Plus there's not much better than Clandestien as well so show ya face. - Labz
May 2007 Dark Matter's demo 'What's the Matter?' is complete. It's got 6 tracks and runs for about 18 minutes. It's heaps different from my solo album 'The Lost Poet' for a lot of reasons - most notably 'cause it's synth-based rather than sample-based - but it'll be distributed the same way (in other words, barely) so look out for it at 567 and Soul Clap. - Labz January 2007 'The Lost Poet' is a full-length 17-track hip hop album that was crudely and feverishly nailed together by some kind of mutated drunken smithy in a laboratory called "The Brainmaze". It was completed early in 2007 and is slowly being dripped out onto Australian society like Chinese water torture. It is manufactured on an outdated conveyor belt that rusts away in an abandoned mine somewhere beneath the upper North Shore of Sydney and covers are being repeatedly glued together using an abhorred spray adhesive that reduces lung capacity faster than a shabs binge. Occasionally servants emerge from the labyrinthine complex that is the mine and make long, arduous journeys, through strange cities and across foreboding landscapes. They distribute their produce at hip hop shows and sometimes through merchants who trade from behind dimly lit counters in hidden stalls like Soul Clap Records and 567KING. It is in those uncommon places where these salivating fiends also procure sustenance, which is dragged home anxiously to be fed upon in a voracious fit. The smithy makes little profit through his creation but nevertheless already hammers away at another. His eyes seem cloudy as his mind wonders through distant galaxies and communes with strange creatures unknown to mankind. His work continues for some other purpose; some incomprehensible desire within urges him to continue. He is demented in his creative rage; lost within his own contorted subconscious, perhaps forever. |
